The 2022 ATHE-ASTR AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE IN DIGITAL SCHOLARSHIP was awarded to the
Aural/Oral Dramaturgies project at the annual conference in Detroit.

The award subcommittee composed the following rationale for this recognition:

‘We agreed that this project “checks all the boxes” in that the scholarship moves the field forward,
the use of the digital is new, and the two come together in an exciting way that is greater than the
sum of its parts. In other words: this is an exemplar of digital scholarship. We found that this project was fascinating for the ways in which it focuses on modes of storytelling that are threatened by print and that the digital, though on the face of it a possibly destructive force for the oral/aural, could
actually make a positive intervention. We were impressed with the way this project looks at
methods of decolonization, and for its critical outlook, as well as the ways in which it engages with
previously published material. Last (but not least) we were impressed with the project’s
accessibility.’
